A brother and sister with two bikes

We're Rogi and Anique. We live in Casuarina, we go to school here, and this is the business we started with two beach cruisers and a lot of arguing about what to call it.

Us, more or less. The bike is the accurate bit.

Why we started

Every holiday we watched people walking up the coast path carrying beach gear, and every one of them would've been quicker on a bike. There's nowhere close by to hire one, and the places that do exist make you drive there, park, hire, drive back, and then do the whole thing again in reverse two days later.

So we saved up and bought two cruisers. Kingscliff is ten minutes up the road from us, Cabarita is about twenty the other way, and between the two there are a lot more holiday houses than there are bikes.

The bikes

Ours are the Pedal Copacabana, a seven-speed with a wide sprung seat, swept-back handlebars, cream tyres and a basket on the front. They're built for flat coastal paths, which is the only kind we've got, and they're comfortable enough that you stop thinking about the bike.

How it actually works

You send us an SMS. We come back and tell you if they're available, which they usually are. Then we ride them to wherever you're staying, fit the helmets properly, show you the lock, and head home. When you're done you message us again and we come and get them. You never have to drive anywhere or return anything.

We do the messages, the deliveries and the cleaning. Our dad does the servicing: brakes, tyres, chain, and a look over the whole bike before it goes out. He used to fix his own bikes and he's fussy about it, which is useful.

The helmets

Every bike comes with a helmet, because it's the law and because a helmet that's been on a stranger's head isn't a pleasant thought. Ours get sanitised between every single hire, straps included. If yours doesn't smell clean when it arrives, tell us and we'll bring another one.

What we're not

We're not a shop. It's the two cruisers plus a few mountain bikes and kids' bikes in our garage, and that's the lot. We can't do e-bikes, tandems, or ten of anything for a wedding, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. If we haven't got what you need we'll tell you who else is around.

The fleet grows as the demand does. Every time somebody asks for something we haven't got, it goes on the list of what to buy next, so it's worth asking.

We're also school kids, so we deliver after school on weekdays and most of the day on weekends and holidays. If you need a bike at nine on a Tuesday morning, we're the wrong people, and we'd rather say that up front.
