Head south out of Cabarita and just keep going. You pass through Hastings Point on the way, which is worth a stop even if you're not planning one, and then it's a quiet run down to Pottsville at the southern end of the Tweed Coast.
It's flatter and emptier than the northern half. Fewer people, fewer driveways, and long stretches where it's just the path, the trees and the sound of the surf somewhere off to your left.
Pottsville has the shops, the creek and a good beach, so it's an easy place to stop for a couple of hours before turning around. Or don't turn around, and get somebody to come and get you.
Worth knowing
- Further than it looks. If the kids are on the smaller bikes, Hastings Point is a sensible turnaround.
- The southerly usually kicks in after lunch, so go early and it's a much easier ride home.
- Cudgera Creek at Hastings Point is a good swim spot on the way back.

Take a cruiser or the 29 inch Cube. It's the longest of the three, so the bigger wheels and the seven gears earn their keep on the way back into a southerly.
