Kingscliff to Cabarita Beach

Shaded beachside cycleway almost the whole way, running between the busy end at Cabarita and Kingscliff, through Salt Village and Casuarina.

Roughly an hour each way, longer if you stop. Give it a morning. Take water and something to eat.

It's shaded beachside cycleway nearly the whole way, which on this coast in February is the entire point. You can ride it in either direction: start at Cudgen Creek in Kingscliff and head south, or start at Cabarita, which is the busier end, and work your way up. Either way you go through Salt Village and Casuarina.

Coming from Kingscliff, Salt Village is the natural first stop, about a third of the way. Coffee, a bakery, somewhere to sit and look at the water, and bike parking out the front. Plenty of people ride only this far and turn around, which is a perfectly good morning.

None of it is hard. There's no hill on the whole route that would make you stand up on the pedals, and on a cruiser you can sit up and actually look at where you're going.

Do it as a there and back if you're feeling good, or ride down, have lunch at Cabarita, and get somebody to come and collect you. We don't mind where the bikes end up as long as you tell us.

Worth knowing

  • Fill a bottle before you leave. There's water along the way but not everywhere.
  • The wind usually comes from the south in the afternoon, so riding down early and back later is the easy way round.
  • Norries Headland is right there once you reach Cabarita. Worth the extra ten minutes.

Bikes for this ride

A cruiser is the right call. You sit upright, the seat is wide and sprung, and the basket takes a towel and a bottle so you aren't riding with a bag on your back for an hour.

$35 a day, $110 for the week, delivered and collected.
